Vernon Baptist Church is a friendly Bible-based, Christ-centered and warm-hearted church family of believers. Our folks come from all walks of life, so whatever your age or background, you’ll find a warm welcome here. You’ll find the people friendly, the music uplifting, and the messages relevant to today’s issues.
At VBC, we endeavor to build Christ-like individuals and families through a variety of programs and opportunities. There’s an active youth group for teens. Children have programs designed just for them. The youngest receive excellent care in our nursery that is staffed with dedicated workers. We have Bible studies and social activities for men and women as well as many special events for the entire family.
If you desire to get involved in something meaningful and eternally important, then Vernon Baptist Church is the place for you. About Our Pastor
Pastor Sean and Amy Cole
Pastor Sean Cole and his wife Amy have two daughters, Lottie and Savannah.
Saved at 14 and called to preach at 16 after reading Isaiah 61:1-2, Pastor Cole graduated from Crown College of the Bible in 2004.
A 2003 internship brought him to Vernon Baptist Church, where he grew close to his friend and mentor Pastor Glen Spencer and met his future wife, Amy - a lifelong VBC member.
He moved to the area after graduating, married Amy in 2006, and served at VBC for eight years before the Lord moved the family to Beckley, West Virginia, in 2014 to pastor for eight more years.
In 2022 they returned to VBC, and in January 2025, Pastor Cole stepped in as pastor following Pastor Spencer's retirement after over 30 years.
Amy teaches a children's Sunday school class and plays piano for the church and choir.
She grew up at VBC, and the whole family serves together - you'll often find Pastor Cole's daughters in the choir, nursery, or helping wherever needed.
Pastor Cole is passionate about preaching the Word with Holy Spirit power, discipling believers, and challenging God's people to walk by faith.
He loves to smile, laugh, and fellowship with the people of Vernon Baptist Church.
About Our Children's Ministries
Nursery
We’ve got a nursery available during every service, so your little ones can be cared for while you enjoy the preaching without distraction.
Sunday School & Children's Church
For young kids, we offer Sunday School classes that teach God’s Word in a way they can understand and enjoy. During the morning service, they’ll sit with you in the auditorium for the first part, then head out to Children’s Church for the rest.
Teens
Teens and pre-teens have their own Sunday School class during the Sunday School hour. For the main services, they stay in the auditorium. We also have JACs on the second Sunday night of each month, plus other youth activities here and there.
