What To Expect When Visiting VBC

Here you will find a listing of some commonly asked questions about Vernon Baptist Church…

What should I expect if I attend a church service?  To receive a warm welcome from friendly and caring Christians who make up our congregation.  On Sundays at 11:00 am, we all gather together for the service.  The song portion of our service lasts for about 20 minutes, while the remainder of the time is spent listening to Bible preaching. Our service last is approximately one hour.

Is it okay to bring my children into the Worship service?  Yes, at this time we do not have a junior church.  All children sit with their parents in the service.

What version of Bible the do you use? We teach and preach from the King James Bible.  We believe that for the  English speaking people, it is the inspired, preserved Word of God.

What type of music can I expect to hear? – We sing the traditional hymns and songs of the faith. Our goal is to glorify God with all of our music. We do not follow the contemporary music pattern that many do today. Our singing is lively and is a great encouragement to all in the service.

Is there a dress standard at your church?  There is no specific dress code for those attending our service. We do however, teach and preach that our dress should honor the Lord and be based on the Bible.

How big is Vernon Baptist  Church? – At the time of this writing, we have any where from 70-80 people who attend on Sunday morning.

What type of preaching will I hear? Preaching is the center of the worship service.  We believe that Bible must be rightly divided and sound doctrine must be taught.  You will hear expository verse by verse preaching.

Do you have a teen program? Yes we do.  We have a Sunday School class for 7th to 12th grade and we have monthly activities for them. We also have a Wednesday evening study group for teens. Our teens are encouraged to serve in the Church and are a very important part of what we do.

How long has Vernon Baptist  Church existed? – Vernon Baptist Church was started in 1873.

Who leads the church? – We believe that the Bible is the final authority in all matters.  The church is autonomous and in is self governing. We are led by our pastor as he follows the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
